About

Down Peninsula Audio [DPA] was a collective of Michigan-based musicians operating under the pretense of a “record label.” The label formally existed from 2003 to 2007, when its last release Killed Our Darlings was issued. Prior to founding DPA, many of the musicians released records on other Michigan-centric labels such as Makoto Recordings, At Arms Mechanics, and Conquer the World Records. We have included some of these pre-DPA releases, as well as post-DPA output in the archive. Also included on this page are collaborations and unreleased material from various DPA contributors. This will be an ongoing project, in the interest of documentation and musical friendship.

It should be noted that many of these downloads contain unfinished music, or demonstrative recordings that weren’t initially intended for public listening. They are gathered here in the name of posterity, and to indulge the curiosity of the DPA community.

Great thanks to C.J. Benninger for photographing these bands, to Aaron Oswiany for his photography/design expertise, as well as to Dave Graw, Mark Penxa, Heather Kinter, and the many other artists who helped design these records. Final thanks to Brandon Corbett for lending his time and support with this project.
